Nutrilipon contains:
- Only the natural form of alpha-lipoic acid, namely R-alpha-lipoic acid (R-ALA). Synthetic alpha-lipoic acid is a mixture of R-alpha-lipoic acid and S-alpha-lipoic acid. The S form hinders the absorption of natural alpha-lipoic acid and inhibits several of its beneficial influences.
- The stable form of natural alpha-lipoic acid (Bio-EnhancedTM, patented salt form of natural alpha-lipoic acid, designated as Bio-EnhancedTM Na-R-ALA®). Ordinary natural alpha-lipoic acid (R-ALA) is heat sensitive, does not easily dissolve in the gastrointestinal tract and polymerises into long chains hindering its absorption. Bio-EnhancedTM Na-R-ALA® is heat stable, good soluble and free of polymerisation. Therefore, Bio-EnhancedTM Na-R-ALA® is much better absorbed than ordinary R-ALA.
